Coats + Jackets

2020 hasn’t been what most of us expected. And If you’re anything like me, you might be feeling frustrated at the fact that you won’t be headed to as many festive events this holiday season. Although, we may not be wearing our glitz and glam-worthy outfits as much this December, we will be wearing coats and jackets every single day. When the temperature drops, outerwear takes center stage. It’s time for wool, leather and down feathers to shine.

Just like shoes, a coat or a jacket is a wardrobe essential. What is the difference between the two? Coats are longer, more substantial garments that provide exceptional warmth. Early on, they were used as a coat of mail worn to protect the wearer from weapons. Jackets, on the other hand, come from the French noun jaquet, which refers to a small or lightweight tunic. They are typically shorter in length and less insulating than a coat. In fashion today, coats and jackets have become synonymous in which they are used interchangeably. It’s less about protection and more about style.

Whether you like to wear statement pieces that stand out in a crowd or pieces that easily pair with half of your wardrobe, you won’t be disappointed with this season’s trends. Leather moto jackets, puffer coats and faux fur, as well as, belted jackets, corduroy, and sherpa or shearling coats are the big stars for fall and winter.

So, no matter where we go (or don’t go) this holiday season, invest in a cute coat or cozy jacket. It’s a worthwhile purchase that will keep you warm, protected and stylish.
