White Button Up Shirt!

Oh how I love a white button up shirt! It’s my hero. The white shirt is hands down my favorite piece of clothing to wear any day, any time, any where. Why? Because it’s effortlessly chic, easy to style and makes getting dressed quite simple. The white shirt provides endless outfit opportunities, especially during the spring when the weather is in limbo. No matter what sort of budget you have or what kind of sense of style, the white shirt is the ultimate wardrobe staple for every one.

Its ability to dominate as a must-have item decade after decade is proof that it will probably never go out of style. Dating back to the 1940s, the white shirt gained serious traction thanks to influential women, such as Ava Gardner and Lauren Bacall, who put it in the spotlight. From then until now, the white shirt has been seen in some of the most prominent movie moments. Remember Audrey Hepburn’s popped collar and rolled up sleeves in Roman Holiday or Kim Basinger’s oversized version in 9 And A Half Weeks? How about Uma Thurman’s tucked in style in Pulp Fiction or Julia Robert’s tied at the waist look in Pretty Woman? All iconic outfits built from a simple white shirt.

It's truly the ultimate classic to have in one's arsenal. Finding the one that fits you is like finding the fashion holy grail. Whether you choose oversized or fitted, linen or poplin, there are endless ways the white shirt can be worn again and again.

Now, let’s talk about how to style the beloved white shirt. Tucked into a great pair of jeans is always one of my go-to outfits. Pair it with any shoe and minimal accessories or if you’re feeling fun, play up your accessories game and add a statement shoe. If you're a skirt person, wear your white shirt loose with an A-line skirt. Or up the sass factor by wearing your loose white shirt tucked into a miniskirt and heels. If you’re going to the beach, wear yours unbuttoned over your bathing suit or tie it at the waist and throw on a pair of cutoff shorts. For a classic monochromatic look, wear your white shirt and white jeans with neutral or metallic shoes. And lastly, if you don’t own a fabulous white button up shirt, go get one. Your wardrobe will thank you!
